FAQ with Esther
What's your typical setup like for a live music performance?
For indoor venues with a piano on site, no setup is required! I do request that clients ensure the piano is tuned if it is an upright or grand for the best sound experience.
For outdoor venues without a piano, my typical setup is a battery pack, a portable keyboard, one battery-powered 10" PA speaker, a wireless handheld mic for the officiant and the necessary stands/cables for a basic sound system. An additional fee will apply and it includes the setup and soundcheck for the performance.
Can I request a song that isn't currently in your repertoire?
Absolutely! There are many good songs in the world and I enjoy learning what speaks to others' hearts. While I know and perform a wide range of music, I'm not familiar with every song in the world. Custom requests require additional time to arrange, learn, and prepare, so an additional fee may apply. Last-minute requests may not always be possible, particularly if there isn't enough time to prepare the song(s) to a standard I'm comfortable performing. If you have a special song in mind, feel free to ask! The earlier you let me know, the better.
I'd like to have a violinist as well as a singer perhaps, do you offer this?
Yes, we are able to work with other instrumentalists or vocalists for your event needs. Please note that it will be subject to availability and applicable fees will apply for each additional musician required. I'd be happy to provide it in a quote.
Is it necessary for me to provide a tent/cover for musician(s) to play?
It is generally advisable to provide one to avoid any unnecessary interruption to the music during the ceremony. As with all outdoor events, we'd like to be prepared for unexpected extreme weather as hot sun, rain, wind and snow can damage electronic equipment. Often, an outdoor setup at a shaded area will suffice for sun exposure. However, a small size 10' x 10' tent is highly recommended for the best protection against rain exposure if the ceremony is to continue outdoors in inclement weather conditions. I'm happy to discuss it further!
Can I book you for just 20-30 minutes?
My live music rates are based on the booking rather than the exact number of minutes I play. Your fee includes much more than the performance itself, including music preparation, communication, travel, setup and pack-down, and reserving the time exclusively for your event. For this reason, I have a minimum booking rate rather than a per-minute or per-song rate. If you only require a short performance, please get in touch and I'd be happy to discuss what may work best for your event.
What's the process like to book with you?
When you send an inquiry, I will draft a quote for you based on the information you provide. For bookings more than 30 days, a 50% non-refundable retainer is required to confirm and secure your service date. The balance owing is due 14 days prior to your event. For bookings within 30 days, full payment is required at the time of booking. We will sign a basic service agreement, have a brief meet-and-greet call to discuss any music selections and setup logistics, and we're all set!
